Nature Publishing Group (NPG) has announced that it will introduce a CC Attribution (BY) as a licensing option for its authors publishing in Scientific Reports. The CC BY licence will be available to authors sumitting articles on or after 1 July 2012, in adidtion to the two non-commercial CC licences already available. All content on Scientific Reports is open access immediately on publication.
In announcing this development, Jason Wilde, Business Development Director of NPG stated:
There has been much debate about commercial reuse on open access articles. We believe in offering our authors choice. And we now know some authors will want to choose CCBY, not least as a result of new funder mandates. Unlike Nature Communications and our other titles, Scientific Reports does not have established revenues from commercial reprints or licensing, making it an economically viable proposition.
