the video slam video is completed! the film, 5 smiles was produced by 5 teams of cross-discipline artists / filmmakers over 48 hours with both creative commons licensed content from the web and content shot on location in and around the melbourne cbd. 5 smiles is an exploration of the themes of tolerance, inclusion, diversity, freedom of expression and association, and access to knowledge and wisdom. view the film below:

brisbane lab call for applications


ANAT still/open new media lab is looking for 15 applicants to attend the Brisbane Lab. You can be an artists, scientists, writers or developers. The Lab will be free series of workshops and forums held 15 + 16 September @ QUT Creative Industries Precinct, Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane

Submit your application via online application form on the ANAT website. Applications close 5pm (ACST) (5.30pm AEST), 31 May 2007. Direct application inquiries to project manager Sasha Grbich.

Still Open will be as a series of free two-day workshops during September in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane, each accompanied by a public evening forum. Facilitators will work with 15 artists, scientists, writers and developers in each city to introduce open source modes of thinking and resources for collaborative and distributed development; to provide hands on experience; and to initiate local networks and projects.

Still Open focuses on both the practice and theory of open source which can be applied through networked art and software development, print and online publishing, and in the scientific arena where the open science movement encourages a collaborative environment in which science can be pursued by anyone who is inspired to discover something new about the natural world.

The Lab will be free, and take place during September as a series of workshops and forums in three locations across Australia.

With the support of the Copyright Agency Ltd, this year’s emerging writers’ festival is presenting a full-day conference for independent publishers from all over Australia – as well as international guests. Participation is by invitation only for this special professional development event.

Elliott Bledsoe will be there to talk about CC licensing for independent publishers.
