Professor Chunyan Wang (Renmin University of China and Creative Commons China Mainland) and Professor Guodong Zhao (Peking University) have authored a book titled Open Educational Resources in the People’s Republic of China: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects for Development. It is published by UNESCO’s Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) and is available on the IITE website  under a CC BY-SA licence.

The book:

  • reviews relevant academic research and concepts related to the open educational content as applied to the Chinese context;
  • analyses the technological prerequisites for the use of ICT in the higher education of China, governmental and institutional support to the promotion of OER;
  • analyses legal and copyright perspectives with regard to OER; and
  • contains a summary of solutions proposed by CC China Mainland.

This book will be of interest to educators, organisations and policymakers in other jurisdictions who have introduced (or are beginning to introduce) OER practices in order to facilitate greater access to education, which is a global concern.
